East Iceland, main attractions on the ring road (road No. 1):
the curch at Möðludalur, mountains Herðubreið (1682m), Sænautasel (renovated farm, Halldór Laxness related), town Egilsstadir, Vallanes farm and church, Þingmúli (Thingmúli) Meeting mountain, Lagarfljót with the snake monster (legend), town Breiðalsvík and the islands Breiðdalseyar, Berunes old farm and church (also guesthouse and sleeping bag accommodation, the owner is Mr. Ólafur), town Djúpivogur Langabúð museum (small exhibition), Papey island (boat in summertime at 13:00)

East Fjords (Eastern Fjords) on the roads 96, 955, 954, 92, 953(hard), 93, 85
Road 85: town Vopnafjörður (population 560, cultural festival in July every year) Road 93: town Seyðisfjörður. International ferry from Europe. Amazing timber houses.
Road 953: the road is passable with passanger cars, however steep, serpentines, hard gravel roads. The small town Brekka (also a church) population is 35. Amazing landscape. The local people usually do shopping in Neskaupstaður and they go by private small boat. Mjóifjörður. Klifbrekkufossar waterfalls.
Road 92: town Reyðarfjörður, World War II Museum, the fjord Reyðarfjörður is 30 km long (the biggest of the Eastern Fjords). Town Eskifjörður (maritime museum and outdoor swimming pool). Town Neskaupstaður (the 2nd biggest town in eastern Iceland). Good to drive there, no “extra” attractions, but amazing landscape - extra amazing.
Road 955: partly graveled road. Road around Ljósafall mountain. Nice view from the cape: small islands in the sea, like Skrúður. Good to drive there.
Road 96: a tunnel accross Kollufell mountain, town Fáskrúðsfjörður (fishing town, few restaurants, launch place: Café Sumarlina). Driving on the road around the mountain Sandfell is amazing. Town Stödvarfjorður (Jóhann!!!) is a small cosy place. Don’t miss Petra Sveinsdóttir’s stone collection (Petra’s stone collection, summer time open all day, in winter call them), the small church in Stöðvarfjörður is a sleeping bag accommodation (light blue roof, white small church).

Road 924, 923: suggested vehicle 4x4. Follow the Jökulsá á Dal (river). Laugavellir (the road is hard) natural bath pool. Kárahnjúkar hydropower project is an interesting and famous damn, power station and also an important work place for the local and the foreign skilled workers (visitors welcome, Landsvirkjun and Alcoa the main companies), also an amazing area. Home of the rein deers.
