WEST FJORDS - Vestfirðir Iceland Tours
Main towns, villages:
Reykhólar, Bjarkalundur, Flókalundur, Hólmavík, Breiðavík, Patreksfjörður, Tálknafjörður,

Roads: mostly unsurfaced, serpentines, often 15% steeps, tunnel at Ísafjördur with across point to Súðavík
Bus service: limited, most only run from June until Aug.

Ferry: from Stykkishólmur
Petrol stations: mainly automatic without staff. Prepaid N1 card, bank card useful.
Highest peak of the West Fjords: Kaldbakur 998m
South coast: wild and wonderful.
Látrabjarg peninsula: road 62 and 612. Suggested vehicle 4x4. Golden beaches, a left huge ship, an airplane collector on the road.
Látrabjarg bird cliff and the Bjargtangar lighthouse (a tag on the house: the westertest Pizza in Europe) the westernmost point of Europe.
Unbelievable numbers of puffins, gulls, kittiwakes.
Hiking idea (20 km) Rauðisandur beach with pink and red sands and an amazing lagoon.
West Fjords (west, central, east part):
small towns, mainly fishing.
The capital of the West Fjord: ísafjörður (population 3500).
A perfect restaurant in Ísafjördur: Tjöruhisið (best fish and seafood dishes) in the edge of the downtown. Open: Jul to Aug.
Main attractions: Reykhólar geothermal swimming pool, Djúpadalur geothermal field (18km west from Bjarkalandur), Flókalundur Vatnsfjörður Nature reserve (landscape), Látrabjarg, Brunnar beach, town Patreksfjörður,town Tálknafjörður green hills and rocky peaks (landscape), town Bíldudalur and the nearby landscape, Borgarfjörður, Þingeyri (Thingeyri) hill Sandfell hiking, Þingeyri peninsula amazing serpentin roads across the hills, Dynjandi (Fjallfoss) dramatic waterfall, town Ísafjörður, Bolungarvík open air Ósvör Maritime Museum, Drangajökull (glacier), Hornstandir
Hornstandir:
Reach the pleace from Ísafjörður by boat. 2nd version: road 61 and 635, after that trekking. Trekking area. Camping and sleeping bag accommodations at Hornbjargsviti (lighthouse).
